Who we are

The Heinrich Böll Foundation is a German Green political foundation that works in over 60 countries in the spheres of sustainability, cross-cultural dialogue, and education. Common European values, gender democracy and energy transition are both central tenets and cross-cutting themes for the Warsaw Office.

Annual Report 2014

Annual Report 2014  provides information about activities of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung worldwide. It explores issues of (gender) democracy, human rights, European policies, social and environmental transformation, art, culture etc.

Mission statement

The Heinrich Böll Foundation is a part of the Green political movement that has developed worldwide as a response to the traditional politics of socialism, liberalism, and conservatism. Our main tenets are ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self-determination and justice. We are a green think-tank and an international policy network.

The History of the Green Foundations

Regional foundations close to the Green Party were set up in the early 1980s. In 1983 there was a first effort to found a national foundation - but it came to nothing. Later in the 1980s three national foundations were established: The feminist Frauenanstiftung, the Buntstift federation of regional foundations, and the Cologne-based Heinrich Böll Foundation. The work of these organisations was later co-ordinated by the umbrella organisation Regenbogen. In 1988 the Green Party recognised Regenbogen as the foundation allied to the party. This meant that from then on the foundation qualified for government funding.

Welcome to the website of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Warsaw. The Foundation is currently working on three programmes: Democracy & Human Rights; International Politics; Energy & Climate. We keenly follow Heinrich Böll’s exhortation that citizens become involved in politics, and we want to inspire others to do the same.

The thematically organized sections correspond with the full spectrum of our activities. Here you can find information about events organised independently, or in cooperation with other organisations, as well as about our publications on the most relevant green topics.
