Solving the current European crisis requires both stronger mutual cooperation within the Union and constructive bilateral relations between the capital cities, including Berlin and Warsaw.  

This report analyzes the historical trajectories of nation-building processes in Poland and Hungary, the identity politics of both parties and their politics of memory. It discusses three specific domains in which the shift in the understanding of the nation is most visible – namely in the attitudes towards the State, democracy and the West.  It finishes by formulating lessons that stem from these two case studies and can serve as a ‘warning call’ for the rest of Europe.

The annexation of Crimea and the hybrid war against Ukraine pose fundamental challenges for the European Union, especially its unanimity. Given a differing stance of the Visegrad countries, the publication analyses reactions of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic focusing on their historical experiences, public opinions, economic relations, and energy- and foreign policy.

The Institute of Public Affairs monitored the electoral campaign before the 2015 parliamentary elections in Poland for Eurosceptic and populist trends, focusing on ideas of Polish parties for foreign and European policy.The aim of the analysis was to describe positions of the main political forces in Poland towards the most important issues in European agenda.

What does Beijing Platform for Action mean for women today? Which elements of its language, which goals of the documents became part of the women’s movement at local, national, and global levels of activism? Does it mean that the Platform for Action, agreed upon in 1995, and considered the most revolutionary international manifesto of the support for women’s rights is now outdated? Has the document that initiated the presence of the women’s organizations within the international public space has the special value only for the first generations of women’s NGOs but is meaningless for the younger women? The Heinrich Boell Foundation commissioned a study that indicates what is the influence and perception of the Beijing Platform for Action in Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
