Systems for Change: Nuclear Power vs. Energy Efficiency + Renewables?
A new myth of the nuclear lobby is the claim that nuclear power and renewable energies are complementary forms of energy. The authors Antony Froggatt and Mycle Schneider prove the opposite: Those who build nuclear power plants hinder the expansion of renewable energies. They show this by comparing two completely different energy systems – a centralized French model, in which nuclear plays a significant role, and a new one, that in recent years has been flourishing in Germany, that focuses on decentralized energy production from renewable sources. The scope of growth of the renewables sector is high, while the nuclear industry desperately tries to paint itself green to survive in the energy market.
