Marc Berthold is since July 2022 the Director of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Paris office, which covers France and Italy. Previously, he was Head of the EU and North America Division at the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung in Berlin. From January 2018 to July 2019, he supervised the "Security in Transition" program at the Center for Liberal Modernity in Berlin and from 2014 to the end of 2017 he managed the office of the then federal president of Alliance 90 / The Greens, Cem Özdemir.

His previous positions at the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung included heading the Israel office in Tel Aviv from 2011 to the end of 2013 after having worked as a foreign policy and security policy advisor for four years. Between 2001 and 2007, he coordinated the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung's Transatlantic Climate Dialogue in Washington, DC.
