How EU's role will develop in both regional and global perspectives? The future of the European integration project  was discussed at the Vistula University during a seminar with Prof. Andrew Moravcsik, Paola Subacchi PhD., and Andrzej Olechowski PhD.

Uniting a large part of the continent under the European Neighbourhood Policy created the inevitable though largely unintended consequence of differences. Recently, the EU launched a consultation on the future of its relations with neighbouring countries. The Heinrich Böll Foundation participated at the review process and submitted its evaluation to the European Commission.

Polish accession to the European Union, the election of female representatives, and existing European legislation raised high hopes for the possibility of legislative improvements for women and LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) people. How, then, did the first decade of Polish female representatives in the European Parliament look? Has the presence of Polish women influenced the agenda of the institution? Have there been any issues with legislation concerning equal rights, equal opportunities, and anti-discrimination?

Politics and the activities of the government in the area of gender equality can be evaluated from different perspectives. For the purpose of this analysis Magdalena Grabowska, Ph.D. considered three aspects: the impact on legislative changes and the applicability of new law(s), governmental projects and activities focused on women and gender equality, and the impact of the EU on political debates in the area of gender equality in Poland. We should not forget what exactly provoked the mass protests that eventually led to the fall of the old regime in Kiev: it was the then President Yanukovych’s sudden decision not to sign the Association Agreement with the EU. Ten years after the ‘Orange revolution’, the dramatic change of events in February 2014 have given Ukraine and Europe a second chance.

The dossier ‘Europe – the final countdown or resurrection time?’ will provide an insight into the feelings and ideas which are held towards Europe by elites and (other) citizens in a wide selection of EU Member States. The European Union office of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung has asked politicians, journalists, writers and other intellectuals in more than a dozen countries to describe what they and the people in their countries feel and think about Europe, whether from their perspectives there is a chance to resurrect and reclaim the European project and what would be the main changes necessary to succeed.
